Fundamentals of caring is an obvious choice for this list. it’s a film about a man (played by Paul Rudd) gets a new job as a disabled teens caregiver (played by Craig Roberts) but this film avoids the usual "inspiration porn" trope found in 99% of movies about disabled people. In fact, Trevor (the teen) actually comes off as a bit of a dick at times. More importantly he comes off as a person with faults and issues. It’s far too common for disabled people to be written very 1 dimensionally. Usually, all their hopes, dreams, faults, and issues come from their disability. Like the movie 5 feet apart about a couple with cystic fibrosis. Whilst it was great for raising awareness about CF it didn't depict other issues unrelated to Cystic Fibrosis. Heck they didn't even show much about how incredibly expensive it would be to live with a disability in America.
This film shows him dealing with his own attitude about his condition. It's actually really funny at times too. It’s not a perfect film but it is refreshing to see a different way of portraying disability.
