Yes man starring Jim Carry and Zooey Deschanel actually had a huge impact on my life. The film itself isn't especially ground-breaking, inspiring, or even that good when compared to some movies in these lists. It’s about a man that after a divorce finds himself in a slump. Just going through life. That's until he's talked into attending a convention, where he is seemingly roped into a covenant in which he has to say yes to any opportunity he's presented. Eventually turning his life around and finding the person right for him.
I was maybe 22 just finished my business qualification and struggling finding any meaning in life. So, I tried it. Not as strict but I wanted to say yes to things I'd usually weigh up in my head. Don't get me wrong it did result in some really weird and awkward nights out, pointless encounters and a small amount of my time being wasted.
But
It also resulted in some bizarre and wonderful experiences. Including all my work with Clarion housing. I was asked if I wanted to attend an interview for "young people". That was literally all I knew going in, but I aced it and now I'm a consultant and was placed in charge of interviewing the potential CEO of the board of directors. Yep, it was up to me to decide who would lead the company. In my them with them I have run a successful poster campaign travelled the UK and directly influenced the lives of over 300,000 people (and with no exudation indirectly changed the lives of millions).
The I guess I have to mention my nude antics. It technically started when I did the sea of hull. I've never been confident about my body so when I saw applications to do a mass nude photo for the local art gallery it kinda saw it as an opportunity to see if I even had the nerve to do anything like that. It was to start literally across the street from my flat but 5 minutes before I was due to turn up, I was still debating it.
Then we have Naked Attraction. Now this was kinda accidental. I signed up as a joke while I was applying for The Cube. Id applied to The Cube and who wants to be a millionaire plenty of times before and never even got an email. I applied once as a joke for Naked attraction, and I got a phone call asking me to attend an audition in Manchester. I’ll do another post about the show, but I guess the important thing to mention is what came after it. As of 2021 I still get messages and friend requests when my episode airs. 95% are of people with CF saying how I've helped improve their confidence and thanked me for raising awareness. I'm extremely proud of that and I will continue to carry on that in my social media and events. Though to be honest the biggest thing I'm grateful for it was that show that introduced J to me and gave her the idea to message me.
We all know how it turned out but still I'm so thankful she came into my life. I never knew what love was before her and hopefully with this Yes Man attitude I can find me someone that is willing to say yes to being with me.... despite the risks, the hard days, the faults. I know first I can make it worth it.
