Don't know how I didn't notice this before. I understand anime isn't for everyone. In my opinion they sit in one of two camps; cringy, over dramatic with needless sexualisation or it can be truly stunning. With beautiful artwork, really creative plot lines , fantastic writing and great humour (for great an anime movie I recommend Your Name, but there are so many other great movies and shows).
On a recent viewing I noticed how well the plot fits with living with Cystic Fibrosis and why they call us warriors.
The plot revolves around a large group of people being stuck in a virtual reality game. Not only that but should they die in the game, they die in real life. Unfortunately, the odds are stacked against them as they have to beat 100 levels, with powerful monsters and bosses. The characters in the show aren't all noble heroes and villains. The majority of them are just regular people. Its difficult to see people scared and unsure if they will survive. Much like CF we too see great "warriors" lose their fight. We see people give up and self-destruct and others with no regard for other people’s lives. There's of people in disbelief of how serious the situation, but mostly we see people that weren't born warriors struggle though life terrified.
Then we have the main character kirito. He's the lead so obviously they made him powerful and unique. He is quite happy to fight for his own survival, but after losing some friends he chooses to fight for others. I'm no hero, I don't have powers and I know I too will lose the fight one day, but like the characters in the show. I do have drive, hope and passion for at least trying. I hope that when others see me fight, they might have that little bit of extra motivation to fight too. It won’t be long 'til some of us start to win, and CF will stand for Cure Found.
